James Cody

songwriter - instrumentalist - Producer

 
 

Based out of Nashville, TN, James Cody is a music producer and multi-instrumentalist who specializes in electro-acoustic production, live performance, songwriting, arranging, sound design and MIDI programming/ sequencing.

James holds a Master of Science in Audio Engineering from Belmont University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Music Technology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He studied classical guitar under Yaniv Attar and Jazz under Eric Essix.

In the Spring of 2014, during his junior year of undergrad, Dr. Henry Panion, III hired James to play lead and rhythm guitar on his arrangement/ production of Stevie Wonder’s Heaven Help Us All, which was commissioned by the City of Birmingham for the 50th commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech and featured as part of the worldwide Dance the Dream tributes in London, Paris, Prague, New York, Beirut, Kabul, Jerusalem, Singapore, Mumbai, Dublin, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Seattle, and Birmingham.

Shortly after, James was awarded a fellowship with UAB Digital Media where his primary role was to compose and produce original music for docu-style films.

In 2015, James was awarded a Silver ADDY award in the Music category from the American Advertising Association for his original song “Rise”. A year later, James was the co-recipient of a Silver ADDY in the Sound Design category for his work on the video “Uncomfortable?”. Specifically, “Uncomfortable?” was used as part of a heroin prevention and awareness campaign (KNOW DOPE) that was funded by the United States Department of Justice and U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance of the Northern District of Alabama. James is also the music composer for Beware of Goat - winner of the 2023 Tonkawa Film Festival “Best Comedy” award.
